Friends of Mothers Initiative Ltd was founded in 2015 as a Community Based Organization (CBO) and incorporated in 2017 as a limited company by guarantee with an aim of empowering communities for sustainable development through economic empowerment and environmental conservation. FMI supports women coffee farmers by buying their cherries, providing training in sustainable farm practices, listening to their needs and supporting them with medical, farm and school equipment. Also, FMI supports their farmers with gas stoves with efficient energy transference so they don’t have to cook in the house on fire anymore. FMI invests in and buys from female farmers only. FMI is certified under FLOID 40388, organic certified coffee producing and exporter organisation. It is located on the slopes of Mt. Elgon and has 50 farmers with a production capacity of 504,591kg of exportable grade coffee.
